Welcome to Providence Hall Junior High!
Here at PHJH we could not be more excited about the upcoming 2017-18 school year. If you're new to Providence Hall Junior High, it's important for you to know that WE ARE A FAMILY. We tell our students and teachers this every day, and we mean it. To us, this means that we treat each other respectfully, we help each other out, and most importantly we care about each other.
At all three Providence Hall campuses, our mission is to help students Think Critically, Communicate Effectively, and Act Responsibly. We achieve this in a number of ways. With a current student population of about 725 at the Junior High, we're small enough to provide individualized help to students when they need it, but big enough to offer a large number of courses and extra-curricular opportunities.
There are some unique traditions at PHJH that help us create a unique family culture as well as accomplish our school mission. For example, every day two students are nominated as "Patriot of the Day" by teachers and celebrated over the announcements for doing great things in the school. Every week a faculty or staff member is recognized for his or her service to the school. Every month we have an assembly that allows us to meet as a school family and learn and grow together. Once a month all of our teachers eat lunch with all of the students. At the end of the year we host what we call "The Patriot Games" which involve academic, physical, and service oriented competitions between students and teachers of all three grades, culminating in one grade level crowned as the year's champion. At the end of the 2016-17 year and for the first time ever, the 8th graders won the entire contest!
Providence Hall is one of only a few schools nation-wide that offers a complete K-12 International Baccalaureate curriculum. The Junior High is an IB accredited Middle Years Programme school. This means that if you visit our classrooms you will see students actively engaged in inquiry-based learning. Lessons are taught in a way that fosters an environment of academic rigor, creativity, and problem solving applicable to the world in which students live. You will also notice a well-functioning system of academic interventions and support that allows students to achieve success according to their own abilities and desires.
All of our teachers are highly certified and trained in IB pedagogy and philosophy. We have two full-time Counselors on staff, Special Education services, as well as a Student Progress Coordinator and Intervention Coordinator who work closely with students to help them succeed.
I hope you'll get to know us a little better either through our website or a visit to our campus. I'm sure you will fall in love with Providence Hall like I have. Feel free to contact me or our front office if you have any questions. Go Patriots!
